“Wellness and movement is different for everybody. I exercise every day and work with a trainer two to three times a week.*

“2021 brought so many broken bones, operations and nerve damage with it, so exercise and rehab have become a part of my daily schedule. Admittedly, I have never had a desire to exercise for the love of it, but now I'm motivated truly by fear of the compound decline of such traumas on top of my SMA. I'm slowly progressing and healing. In doing so, I have found that the exercise helped me to deal with the fear as well.

“However, wherever you are along the spectrum of SMA, any movement is positive. I know it's not easy to find 'spaces' in which to do so, or where we are even welcome, or professionals who are equipped with the knowledge to assist us. So other activities that can sustain important elements of movement – such as playing an instrument, singing, board games and Boccia – may be ways in which we can practice our wellness.”
